Oct 5: Dr Gloria Burgess: Creating Bridges. Dr. Delaney Ruston: A Story of Schizophrenia ~ PODCAST
Monday, 05 October 2009
People joke about having a mid-life crisis. But if you're the one having it--regardless of your age--it's not so funny! And sometimes it can be hard to see your way out. We'll talk with Dr. Gloria Burgess about building bridges from what was and what is, to what can be. And Dr. Delaney Ruston joins us to share her moving journey as a daughter, doctor, and filmmaker who wants to reconnect with her estranged schizophrenic father...a father who wants to stop his medicine ... and a system that fails them both when he does. LIsten to PODCAST.

Dr. Gloria Burgess is the author of Dare to Wear Your Soul on the Outside. You might remember her first visit to Conversations Live when she shared the touching story of her father's relationship with William Faulkner. Gloria Burgess is a speaker, corporate consultant, and executive coach. She's also the founder and principal of Jazz, Inc. Listen to earlier show with Gloria.

Delaney Ruston is an internal medicine doctor and award winning documentary filmmaker who founded an independent production company, MyDoc Productions 10 years ago. Films by MyDoc productions have focused on controversial medical themes, such If She Knew, which explores the ethics of withholding bad news from patients, and Crossroads, the Intersection of Pain and Addiction. Ruston began focusing on mental illness with a short about her relationship with her mentally ill father entitled, Unlisted, which aired on PBS. This film became the catalyst for her recent feature documentary, Unlisted: A Story of Schizophrenia.
