Lisa Jackson can’t keep away from murderers, especially serial killers. She’s been helping to kill people all across the nation, from Savannah to right here in the Pacific Northwest! It’s been a worthwhile mission, as her loyal readers return again and again, keeping her name as a fixture on bestseller lists. Struggling to keep food on the table, Lisa began writing at the urging of her sister, novelist Nancy Bush. For a while they worked together quite successfully, but Lisa’s inclination for darker stories set them off on different paths. As those who know her would attest, she enjoys making the hair stand up on the back of her reader’s necks! Afraid To Die and You Don’t Want To Know are her most recent releases, and in the coming months Confessions and Unspoken are soon to follow! Lisa Jackson is an amazing writer, a workaholic, and still finds time to be a dedicated daughter and mom!

In the spring of 2005, cardiologist Barbara Natterson-Horowitz was called to consult on an unusual patient: an Emperor tamarin at the Los Angeles Zoo. While examining the tiny monkey’s sick heart, she learned that wild animals can die of a form of cardiac arrest brought on by extreme emotional stress. It was a syndrome identical to a human condition but which veterinarians called by a different name—and treated in innovative ways. This case led her on a journey in which she discovered astonishing medical connections between the human and animal worlds. Joining forces with science journalist Kathryn Bowers, Natterson-Horowitz employs fascinating case studies and meticulous scholarship to present a revelatory understanding of what animals can teach us about the human body and mind. “Zoobiquity” is the term the authors have coined to refer to a new, species-spanning approach to health. Delving into evolution, anthropology, sociology, biology, veterinary science, and zoology, they break down the walls between disciplines, redefining the boundaries of medicine.

Aug 13: The Power of Habit ~ PODCAST

Habits. At once both irritating and comforting. Everyone has them, and few things are more difficult to quit! New York Times reporter Charles Duhigg joins Vicki today, bringing to light how habits are formed and how they can make a difference in your life! Plus advertising genius Peter Rosch discusses his life as a recovering alcoholic and his new thriller!

Tune in every Monday at noon Pacific to enjoy Conversations Live with Vicki St. Clair, KKNW 1150AM or 94.9FM HD3!

On its most basic level, a habit is a neurological loop. Take brushing your teeth, for instance. It begins with a cue (my mouth tastes funny), which leads to a routine (time to brush my teeth), which ends with a reward (minty fresh!). Many daily activities are the result of habit, rather than an actual decision making process. In his New York Times bestseller The Power of Habit, Charles Duhigg examines how habits are born, and retraining the brain to stop the bad habit trigger. But habits are not always a negative! He also looks at how implementing “keystone” habits can lead to the difference between utter failure and unparalleled success! Whether you are looking to stop having that midnight snack or to learn how athletes like MIchael Phelps rely on race-day habits to win, this book has something for you. Charles Duhigg is an investigative reporter for the New York Times, where he has most recently been the lead writer for it’s front-page series on Apple. He is a winner of the National Academy of Sciences, National Journalism, and George Polk awards, and was a part of a team of finalists for the 2009 Pulitzer Prize. He frequently contributes to NPR, This American Life, PBS’s Newshour, and Frontline.

“The hit show Mad Men entertains viewers with escapades in the advertising world, but life in the real world of advertising can be anything but entertainment,” says Peter Rosch, the creative genius behind popular ad campaigns for Miller Brewing Company, Levi’s, Rolling Stone Magazine, and the new acclaimed Fear No Susan Glenn AXE campaign. In his new fiction thriller My Dead Friend Sarah: A Novel, he calls upon his experiences as a recovering alcoholic, expertly exploring the psychology of an alcoholic while skillyfully rendering a unique story of a missing woman. When Rosch isn’t writing ads, educating his fans via his blog Level9Paranoia.com, or performing in his rock band, The Future, you will most likely find him playing fetch with his cat, Target. Yes, his cat plays fetch! In October, Rosch will celebrate four years of sobriety.

Aug 06: More Great Summer Reads! ~ PODCAST

The dog days of summer are soon upon us, and what better way to enjoy the heart of the summer then to relax outside with a compelling story you just can’t put down! Once again, Conversations Live is proud to welcome some of the hottest fiction writers in the country!

Every Monday at noon Pacific on KKNW 1150 AM… Conversations Live with Vicki St. Clair! Don’t miss an episode!

In the midst of a sudden spring snowstorm, an unknown man armed with a gun walks into an elementary school classroom. Outside the school, the town of Broken Branch watches and waits. As tension mounts with each passing minute, the fears and grudges of the small town are revealed as the locals race to discover the identity of the stranger who holds their children hostage. Recently released, One Breath Away is the latest work from Heather Gudenkauf, the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of The Weight of Silence and These Things Hidden. One Breath Away has already follwed suit as a New York Times, USA Today, and Publisher’s Weekly bestseller!

What happens when you are followed by millions and loved by none? Logan Wade hasn’t seen her cousin Kelsey since their parents separated them as children, but when she gets a call from her famous cousin offering a job as her assistant, she can’t refuse. Their reunion is quickly overshadowed by the toxic dynamic between Kelsey and her parents, and it is soon revealed that the wounds that tore them apart so many years ago have created a show-stopping family business! Hampton’s Magazine calls Between You and Me by Emma McLaughlin and Nicole Kraus “The ultimate summer read.” This prolific duo have authored several novels, including The New York Times bestselling The Nanny Diaries, the longest hardcover bestseller of 2002 which was made into a major motion picture starring Scarlett Johansson, Laura Linney, and Alicia Keys. Between You and Me will be available in stores August 21st, but you can buy it online right here, right now!

Finally, Vicki discusses what the author calls a “cultural autobiography” in Peter Lefcourt’s An American Family. Set between two of the most dynamic events in American History – Kennedy’s assassination and 9/11 – An American Family chronicles the lives of five immigrant Baby Boomer siblings. Peter Lefcourt is a refugee from the trenches of Hollywood, where he has distinguished himself as a writer and producer of film and television. Among his credits are “Cagney and Lacey,” for which he won an Emmy; “Monte Carlo,” in which he managed to keep Joan Collins in the same wardrobe for 35 pages; the relentlessy sentimental “Danielle Steele’s Fine Things,” and the underrated and hurried “The Women of Windsor,” the most sordid, and thankfully last, miniseries about the British Royal Family. He is a 30 handicap golfer, drinks too much good win, and has never been awarded the Nobel Prize for anything.
