A breast cancer diagnosis is a lightning bolt of panic and confusion. Today Dr. Lynn Hartmann joins Vicki to discuss the latest in breast cancer research, and The Mayo Clinic Breast Cancer Book, written to help take the mystery out of breast cancer and give women and their families a better understanding of the disease and to help them make informed decisions regarding treatment and care. Dr. Hartmann is a Professor of Oncology at The Mayo Clinic and is Associate Director for Education at The Mayo Clinic Cancer Center.

Diane Mapes is living proof that you can not just survive breast cancer, but thrive! After being diagnosed with breast cancer in early 2011, Diane underwent a double mastectomy and spent the better part of the rest of the year undergoing chemotherapy, followed by seven weeks of near-daily radiation treatments. A fulltime freelance writer and former Seattle Post-Intelligencer columnist, she takes a candid and sometimes humorous approach to her ordeal on her breast cancer blog Double Whammied.
